NHS Estate Decarbonistion

Project management and consultancy across four Birmingham NHS hospital sites, replacing fossil-fuel heating with low-carbon alternatives via The Carbon & Energy Fund.

We provided project management and consultancy services for a programme of de-carbonisation works across four NHS hospital sites in Birmingham — Heartlands Hospital, Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Good Hope Hospital, and Solihull Hospital. The programme moved each site away from legacy fossil-fuel heating toward sustainable alternatives, including air and ground source heat pumps, replacing steam heating with low temperature hot water (LTHW) systems, LED lighting, and building controls upgrades.
Working within live medical environments meant the entire project lifecycle had to be managed with zero disruption to patient care. Our role covered stakeholder management, budget control and technical oversight.

Queen Mary University of London

Queen Mary University of London wanted to increase the processing capacity of an existing data centre that also had a failing air conditioning system. We designed a new heat recovery system built around hot aisle containment cooling, using heat pumps to cool the data centre while feeding the resulting heat into the university’s local district heating network — displacing the use of existing gas-fired boilers.

We also designed upgraded power supplies for both the data centre and the new heat pump plant, provided project management services throughout construction, and acted as Employer’s Agent for the JCT contract.

Gridserve - EV Charging Infrastructure Rollout

We provided specialist M&E consultancy supporting the rollout of over 400 electric vehicle (EV) and eHGV charging sites nationwide. Our scope covered, compilation of Employer’s Requirements and Electrical scope of works, ‘model’ design drawings, scope review, technical consultancy of the Design & Build contractor’s designs at each site. We surveyed and managed complex utility connections and ensured every design complied with IET Code of Practice and relevant safety standards thereby delivering consistent, high-quality technical engineering across a large-scale, fast-moving infrastructure programme.

Hull College - Centre for Learning

M&E Independent Certifier services for the refurbishment of the Derek Crothall Building at Hull College, forming part of the Hull Esteem Centre for Learning programme — a capital infrastructure project delivered on behalf of Kingston upon Hull City Council.

PCH provided specialist M&E consultancy in a sub-consultant capacity to Drees & Sommer UK, who held the NEC Supervisor appointment for the project. Our scope covered the existing building refurbishment, with Houlton as the principal contractor and Radius Associates as principal designer.

We carried out monthly site inspections throughout the construction programme, producing inspection reports to track and evidence progress against the M&E design and specification. At practical completion we attended commissioning and witnessing visits, carried out snagging and de-snagging, verified as-built documentation, and issued the M&E completion certificate. A defects liability inspection is programmed for twelve months after practical completion.

Leeds Beckett University

We’ve provided M&E design consultancy services to Leeds Beckett University across a series of refurbishment projects at its Headingley Campus, working directly with LBU Estates from concept design through to construction and handover.
Our scope has included the BEEC IT Labs fit-out — refurbishing six IT teaching rooms in the James Graham Building — and the Fairfax Hall teaching rooms refurbishment, modernising three ground-floor teaching spaces. On both projects we covered small power and data, lighting and lighting controls, fire detection and alarm, access control and CCTV, and heating/cooling where required, developing the design from RIBA Stage 2 through to Stage 4 tender documentation, then supporting LBU through tender, construction, and final account stages.

KFT Fire Trainer

KFT Fire Trainer GmbH engaged us to carry out an independent design suitability review of the mechanical and electrical building services for a full-scale Airbus A380 fire training rig installed at Heathrow Airport, used by fire and rescue services for live training exercises.
Our review covered the gas, ventilation, water, electrical power distribution, lighting, and control systems across the rig, combining a desktop review of the design documentation with stakeholder interviews and a site visit to the rig during construction. Subject to a number of design clarifications being addressed by the client’s design team, we confirmed we had no technical objection to the proposed mechanical and electrical installation — giving KFT independent assurance on a safety-critical, highly specialised piece of aviation training infrastructure ahead of completion.

Lidl Supermarkets GB

M&E Quality Control consultancy across 14 new Lidl GB store builds, providing independent technical assurance in support of Lidl’s store construction programme from pre-start design review through to final certificate issue.

Our scope followed Lidl’s Store Construction M&E QC Scope of Service. At each site we reviewed M&E contractor drawings against the Lidl BBS specification, led the Pre-Start Design Team Meeting, and carried out two formal site inspections — producing photographic defect reports tracked cumulatively through to resolution.

During the final construction phase we attended the three-day commissioning witnessing programme, independently verifying HVAC, BMS, domestic water, electrical distribution, fire alarm and intruder alarm systems. We issued Interim and Final M&E Completion Certificates where installations met the required standard, supported by completed witnessing checklists, ventilation sketches, spotlight feature lighting checks, de-snagging visits, and a formal O&M manual review.
